What I had in mind was comparing the realities of modern sailing vessel crews to the tall ships of olden days, in the vein of the work songs they sang while sailing.  I don't know how you'd categorize this song - maybe it's a call-and-response work song, or a folk song, or a traditional song, or an old timey song, or a ballad or an Irish song, who knows?  I guess I wrote it to be a modern-day sea chanty (or is that spelled shanty?) or perhaps a contemporary maritime song, if you will.
