Hot Sauce

Lyrics

"Hot Sauce"
Music & Lyrics by Scott Cooley.

Capsacin, got my heartbeat racin’

All the blood rushin’ to my head

Thinkin’, gotta do some cold water drinkin’

Before I fall down dead

Hot sauce, yeah........my baby’s makin’ hot sauce for me

Hot sauce, alright........my baby’s got some hot sauce for me

Just a little bit on the tip of my tongue

My baby’s hot sauce be hotter than the sun

Hot sauce, yeah

My eyes be waterin’, can’t you hear me hollerin’

I can’t see a damned thing

My nose be runnin’, Kleenex I be comin’

I’ll blow my nose, and then I’ll sing about

Hot sauce, yeah........my baby makes it hot for me

Hot sauce, alright........she’s gotta lotta sauce for me

It only takes a drop on the top of my tongue

My honey’s hot sauce is hotter than the sun

Hot sauce, yeah

I fell in love with this girl from New Orleans

She said her sauce was so hot that it would make me scream

At first I didn’t believe her, I had to try for myself

So then she took a little bottle down off of the shelf

I said go ahead baby, and then I stuck out my tongue

Next thing I knew, I was in love

Hot sauce, yeah........my woman’s got the hots for me

My honey child likes hot sauce, alright........she make a lotta sauce for me

It only takes a drip on the tip of my tongue

My little lady’s hot sauce is number one

Hot sauce, gonna get me some, ‘cause my girlie makes it just for me

She makes hot sauce, yeah.........I get all I want for free

Talkin’ ‘bout hot sauce, alright.......my baby’s got it hot for me

Hot sauce, gave me a scoville thrill, and now I needs ta chill

Brief Description

Many people have told me this is one of their all-time favorite songs I've written.  To me, it's quite unsophisticated songwriting-wise.  Very simple chords, melody, and lyrics.  Sometimes a certain combo of these just works, inexplicably.  The subject matter is appealing, I suppose, but it's not about anything - except the title.  The importance of catchy, familiar, recognizable & memorable song titles should not be underestimated.  I had written this on a scrap of notebook paper from back in the early 90s when I used to frequent various restaurant/bars that featured 10 cent wing specials on certain nights, and groups of guys would show up together and sort of compete with each other for quantity and speed before reaching for the mug of beer.  Good times.  This was way before the whole concept took off popularity-wise and you saw a majority of such establishments offer these or entire specialty chains like Hooters and Buffalo Wild Wings.  It was a new thing to me at the time, and somehow in your early 20s and bar-hopping days, it seemed like a pretty cool experience to have.  The fact that you could get a natural "high" of sorts from spicy pepper sauce on food was somewhat a novelty to people at the time.
