Torn In Two

Lyrics

"Torn In Two"
Music & Lyrics by Scott Cooley.

Well I've been banged up and bruised, left alone to die

I've lived on the jagged edge, never stopped to wonder why

Been knocked down a thousand times, but I always got back on the horse

I've never been a quitter, but now you say you want a divorce

You broke my heart, tore it in two

One half for me, The other half for you

I'll never be whole, without your laugh

You've made me cry, but I still want you back

No stitches could ever mend it, and it can't be fixed with glue

You broke my heart, it's torn in two

Well I've had to bandage up my share of cuts, I've lost a lot of blood

Had casts on almost every bone, been dragged around through the mud

I've been trampled and stampeded, got my clothes all ripped to shreds

I'm lucky just to be alive, but since you left me I just feel dead

You broke my heart, tore it in two

One half for me, The other half for you

I'll never be whole, without your laugh

You've made me cry, but I still want you back

No stitches could ever mend it, and it can't be fixed with glue

You broke my heart, it's torn in two

I'd love to get back to lovin', and get over gettin' over you

I'd like to start livin' my life again, with somebody new

But baby ever since you've been gone, I just don't know what to do

How do I start over again when my heart’s been torn in two

You broke my heart, tore it in two

One half for me, The other half for you

I'll never be whole, without your laugh

You've made me cry, but I still want you back

No stitches could ever mend it, and it can't be fixed with glue

You broke my heart, it's torn in two

This ain't my first rodeo, but I can't cowboy up without you

You broke my heart, it's torn in two

We gotta put the pieces back together, I’m only half a man without you

You broke my heart, it's torn in two

Brief Description

This was pretty much the second country-ish song I wrote, but the first serious one.  Puttin' Up A Pole Barn was a country parody, but this one I wrote because I discovered that the best market for non-performing songwriters to sell their songs to famous recording artists to record and release was this genre.  I took a stab at it, and I guess just wanted it to have the feel of a Clint Eastwood western somehow.  I'm not even sure it qualifies as country, but what the hey.

You've got to understand I grew up in a time and place where it was not cool to like country, and there was a stereotype it was for white trash, rednecks, etc.  Later in life, I realized some of the old artists like Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Lefty Frizzell, and Willie Nelson (to name a few) wrote some pretty cool songs.  I have no idea if this one is anything like those, but anyway, see if you can picture Randy Travis or George Strait singing it.  I think it might work well.
