What Makes The World Go 'Round

Lyrics

"What Makes The World Go 'Round"
Music & Lyrics by Scott Cooley.

Well I couldn’t help but notice you in that bikini

When you walked by on the beach today

You’re so young and beautiful

And I’m so old and grey

You made me turn my head, I couldn’t help it

What I wanted to say was Whoa!

But I managed to just smile and keep silent

As I watched you come and go

If I could talk to you I’d tell you

That you’ll never look as good as you do now

Enjoy every minute of your blissful youth

If you only knew what I know now

This feeling I have is natural

It’s what makes the world go ‘round

Now I know that I could never be your lover

And there’s no need for me to be your friend

So I’ll think my dirty thoughts, and no one has to know

I just hope you’ll walk by again

If I could talk to you I’d tell you

That you’ll never look as good as you do now

Enjoy every minute of your blissful youth

If you only knew what I know now

This feeling I have is natural

It’s what makes the world go ‘round

It’s all I can do to keep from jumping up

To start a conversation with you

But there’s no sense in making you uncomfortable

It would only make me feel the same way too

So all I can do is daydream

Of what it would be like for me to be with you

I’ll hide behind these sunglasses

And enjoy the view

If I could talk to you I’d tell you

That you’ll never look as good as you do now

Enjoy every minute of your blissful youth

If you only knew what I know now

This feeling I have is natural

It’s what makes the world go ‘round

Well I try to tell myself I’m not a bad man

And I try not to think out loud

But if you only knew what I’d like to do with you, honey

It’s what makes the world go ‘round

Brief Description

The alternate or parenthetical title for What Makes The World Go 'Round should be "The Dirty Old Man Song" because that's the character's perspective.  It's self-explanatory, and really just based on the experience of being on a beach where you can't help but notice the hot young girls in bikinis, and then you realize you're old and out of their league, even though in your mind you still feel like you're 21.
