Next Album Due This June - Songwriting & Recording Under Way

Post date: Nov 6, 2013 5:01:21 AM

June 21, 2014 is of course the target release date for my next studio album, and I'm on my way to being able to hit it. I've got a few new songs written, a few others where the writing is in progress, and here it is only November, 2013. I even have the home recording rig put back together and set up so that I'm ready to hit that red button. No clear "hits" yet, but as you know, I've never had those before, so why start now? ;-) Just waiting until I have a good batch of keepers first, then I'll be ready to roll.

My past albums have had themes, and this one is shaping up to be no different. Lakeside Landing had a nautical/island/maritime/Caribbean theme, Drive Time Companion had more of an Americana theme, Sense Of Belonging had sort of a folk theme, and Cherchez La Femme had a theme of love. The grouping of songs that have things in common with each other is never initially intentional, but it's working out that this one just might end up having a blues feel to it, both musically and lyrically. Bluesy, at least.

That is not to say that it will be depressing by any means. Listening to the blues has the power to make people feel great, and that's what I expect. Anyway, it's starting to have that sort of a similar style about it, not unlike my first official album, so if you liked Moon Dreams, you'll have this next one to look forward to. I'm certain it will be even bluesier, and even better.

Other than new songs starting to show up, I also have a new guitar and a new dog. So, this next record will sound better because I'll be recording myself playing my new Martin acoustic, and the new golden retriever, Levi, is proving to be an inspiration, just as my last dog, Lucky was. We had to have him put to sleep about a year ago - wow, that was hard because he was the greatest dog in the world It's amazing how attached you get to a dog. So I guess that gave me the blues, and now training a new puppy is way more of a challenge than I ever thought, even though I love the little guy, he's a monster, so I'm sure that's contributing to the blue mood. The day job is ever-changing and challenging too, and my mother-in-law passed away this year too, so supporting my wife through a tough time as well.

Who knows, maybe I'm due for better times ahead, and maybe the songs will get sunnier, and it will be a happy pop record! Probably not though, since I have a good start to a batch of bluesy songs, and I love this kind of music. This is just a quick announcement to let you know I'm working on it, and that it's starting to come together. If all goes according to plan, I'll have more formal and newsworthy information to post here within the next six months or so. Until then, I thank you for your interest.
