Any Port In A Storm

Lyrics

"Any Port In A Storm"

Music & Lyrics by Scott Cooley.

If you want to sail you've got to learn the ropes

Or else the captain will lower the boom

And if you're not gung ho, you'll be left alone

To paddle your own canoe

But back on land, you can be your own man

Find a woman who looks good to you

If she's broad in the beam, and gets a wide berth

All the better for holdin' on to

Any port in a storm will do

It's not hard for a sailor to find a woman

Who says she likes the cut of his jib

It's not likely to be her maiden voyage

He won't need to say much, just ad-lib

When a sailor's been too far out to sea

For too long with no companions but crew

He won't have concern if she's got experience

Or the patience to pick and choose

Any port in a storm will do

You can batten down the hatches and weather a squall

Try to ride it out and be proud you're not a docker

Drop the anchor line down to the bitter end

Or abandon ship for Davy Jones' locker

But any able seaman knows to head for shore

It doesn't matter where if it's safe and sound

Resisting temptations of mermaids at sea

To find the real thing on dry ground

In most harbors sailors find a fine kettle of fish

If they've other fish to fry they're not thinkers

When a sailor finds a woman looking for a ride

He'll always fall for it hook line and sinker

From rollin' high seas with salty dogs for ten hours

To rockin' below with a pretty kitty for two

Above board and happy as a clam at high water

She'll say she loves him but they'll know it's not true

Any port in a storm will do
