For years, I've offered multiple types of subscriptions, email lists, mailing lists, newsletter signups, feeds, fan clubs, groups, forms, etc.Β I've tried numerous ways to make it easy for people to share their email address with me, so I can just send them a link to my latest blog posts, or whatever.Β No one has ever signed up.Β I've put it in the footer, the header, the banner, the home page, in the menus, etc.Β I've renamed it mailing list, email list, etc., changed the wording from sign up to subscribe, tried constant contact, mailchimp, google groups, substack, etc.Β Nothing works.Β I get it.Β You're not interested.Β Β
Despite this, all the advice I read about marketing yourself as a solo artist says it is extremely important to email a group of people about your music a few times per year, and you're supposed to start by adding your family and friends.Β I think they tell you this will work to sell merchandise like t-shirts or something.Β I'm supposed to do this to take you on a journey to becoming a super fan by responding, reacting, commenting, getting to know you on a deeper level, encouraging two-way conversation, turn you into a faithful supporter, have direct communication, exchanging, etc.
The whole thing seems ridiculous to me, and I laugh thinking of all the ways I've tried
