You can now easily learn how to play my song Mackinac Island on ukulele if you want to! By using the lyrics with chord chart diagrams on the Ukulele Tabs website, you can hover over the chord letter placed above the word where played to view the fingering placement. It's a simple song, and it's perfect for uke.

This is probably my most famous song, and now whether you're already a ukulele player, or are still learning, you can quickly ensure this song is in the arsenal of your live performance repertoire. I can verify that the lyrics and chords are pretty darned accurate, and the entire song is included, except any instrumental break you might want to throw in. On the studio recording, my lovely wife Lenore played the marimba during that part. Although the site is named after the short version of the word "tablature," there is no actual tablature for the melody, it's only words and chords. Let's face it, most ukulele players are going to be strumming chords as opposed to playing individual notes anyway.

The site lists the difficulty as "intermediate" and rate it a 4.3, whatever that means. I think it's much easier than that rating would indicate however. The uke I use when playing it live here in Michigan is concert size, but it will work for most sizes of ukuleles, including soprano. You can also click a link on the page noted above to view the chords as they would be played on a baritone uke. They have a feature that allows you to transpose it up or down several steps, so you can play it in a key that is best suited to your vocal range. I think they mistakenly list the key as E minor right now, and although I'm no expert in keys, I'm pretty sure it should be in the key of G.

There are only four chords used in this song: G, C, D, and B; and although there are variations possible in the way to play them, the site displays the chart diagrams with numbered dots for your fingers on the appropriate strings and frets as follows:

Appropriately, these assume you have your uke tuned to GCEA, or what is otherwise known as "Island" tuning. To learn more about the song, see it's corresponding page of scottcooley.com here: www.scottcooley.com/albums/lakeside-landing/mackinac-island . Happy strumming and singing!!!
